Well Equipped Community Center

Community Centers

Lake Balboa is considered an under-served community in part because public and private community services and facilities are lacking in the district. With few city-wide institutions, the community is largely invisible to Angelenos outside of the neighborhood.

To help remedy this, we propose locating several community services around a new civic plaza adjacent to the Orange Line station:

  • New branch library equipped with computer workstations & virtual meeting booths;
  • Resilience Center within the library providing a safe place during climate emergencies;
  • Public Exhibition Space directly accessible from the Civic Plaza and Orange Line station for community use;
  • Park Interpretive Center, located on an upper level overlooking the Sepulveda Basin, to tell the story of the natural and cultural history of the San Fernando Valley, featuring an ornithology exhibit, auditorium, and gift shop offering Native American art & crafts;
  • Offices for local representatives.

Taken together, these institutions will give Lake Balboa a community-minded focus and serve as a beacon of civic pride for greater Los Angeles.
