Community Gathering Spaces

Civic Gathering Spaces

Civic gathering spaces underpin the social, cultural, and political life of any city and Los Angeles, sprawling and automobile-dependent, is severely missing them. That same urban sprawl, separating us socially and politically, also generates the enormous carbon footprint that is a primary culprit responsible for our current global environmental crisis. As such, we see sustainability and civic placemaking as inextricably linked.

Our vision is for Los Angeles to emerge as a global model for equity and sustainability, culturally rich and environmentally resilient, with affordable housing for all and accessible public civic spaces to bring our diverse communities together; where all citizens have equal voice and political representation; where social justice is woven into the fabric of the community; and where the enormous creativity of our citizens can be on display and tapped to solve our most pressing and existential problems.

We see our Lake Balboa Park Project as a template, a model for a more civic-minded, equitable and sustainable city.
