Saving and Re-locating 50+ Mature Coast Live Oak Trees
These trees are on land in Ventura County previously occupied by a nursery. They have been saved by the owners of the land – since the nursery was sold and relocated in 2020. They are more than 20’ high.
In addition to providing great beauty to the Sepulveda Basin, these trees are sufficiently large to provide an immediate shade canopy to combat an ever-increasing number of heat emergencies.
This project is led by FALA’s Executive Council members, Tataviam Tribal Member and nursery manager for the Annenberg Wildlife Crossing - Julia Samaniego; Tataviam & Chumash Elder - Alan Salazar; and FALA’s Board member, the landscape architect Mia Lehrer.
BrightView, a specialist tree removal company has been retained to transport and replant the trees in a series of groves in Lake Balboa Park and the Wildlife Reserve, including pre and post planting maintenance. BrightView have a reputation for 95+% survival rate.
