Relocating Mature Coast Live Oak Trees

Saving and Re-locating 150+ Mature Coast Live Oak Trees

  • These trees are on land in Ventura County previously occupied by a nursery. They have been saved by the owners of the land – since the nursery was sold and relocated in 2020. Some are more than 15’ high.
  • In addition to providing great beauty to the Sepulveda Basin, these trees are sufficiently large to provide an immediate shade canopy to combat an ever-increasing number of heat emergencies.
  • This project is led by FALA’s Executive Council members, Tataviam Tribal Member and nursery manager for the Annenberg Wildlife Crossing - Julia Samaniego; Tataviam & Chumash Elder - Alan Salazar; and FALA’s Board member, the landscape architect Mia Lehrer.
  • BrightView, a specialist tree removal company has been retained to transport and replant the trees in a series of groves in Lake Balboa Park and the Wildlife Reserve, including pre and post planting maintenance. Environmental Design have a reputation for 90+% survival rate.
